Fall River Foster Care Support Task Force

The United Neighbors of Fall River Foster Care Support Task Force is made up of Department of Children and Families staff, community agency representatives, community-based health organizations, former foster youth & foster/adoptive parents.  The Task Force works to raise community awareness of the needs of foster care and to build a comprehensive local network of support to foster families thus improving outcomes for children in foster care!

The Foster Care Support Task Force works to reduce the number of placements children in foster care have by ensuring that there are enough quality foster homes to support the number of children in foster care and by supporting the foster homes that the Department has to maintain stable placements.  Numerous placement changes are associated with:

• Problems in children’s ability to form relationships
• Academic problems
• Exhibiting behavioral problems
• Trauma symptoms
• Involvement with the juvenile justice system for males
• Increased chances of re-entering foster care after reunification

The Foster Care Support Task Force works to strengthen the following:

• Recruit quality foster homes
• Adequately support current foster homes
• Increase community-wide awareness of the needs of foster care
• Leverage financial support for foster care
